Saray El Nile Dahabiya
Saray El Nile is a unique and historic Dahabiya, built in 1882 and restored in 2019. The ship is 33 meters long from stem to stern, 6 meters across the keel, and 5 meters from the beam to the sun’s surface. Like all traditional dahabiyas, Saray has two masters.
Saray is a dahabiya with an original iron hull built in Scotland. It has a hardwood sundeck, quarterdeck, and stern. When the wind is low, the ship is towed by the tugboat Said. However, it can sail against the current with the northerly wind.
Beneath the expansive wooden sundeck, guests will find six double en-suite cabins and a spacious suite with a private terrace. During its construction, the designer of Saray El Nile ensured that each cabin was unique, with a different design. For example, the colors of the cabins are different, but all are linked to the meaning of the name Saray El Nile. The inscriptions behind the bed, bedspread covers, and pillowcases are varied between papyrus plants, lotus flowers, palms, and banana trees; elements that represent the ancient Egyptian culture and the nature of southern Egypt. Saray El Nile is completely handmade and plastic-free. The boat also features crew cabins and a modern stainless-steel kitchen.
The sun deck is quite spacious, measuring approximately 20 meters in length and 6 meters in width. It offers several furnished areas, including handcrafted rattan tables and deck chairs reminiscent of the 1920s. Additionally, there is a bar area with refrigerators stocked with cold beverages. Guests can request buffets and snacks from the chef.
Additionally, there is a beautiful glass room with air conditioning that features a private library. The dining area boasts a spacious table that comfortably seats up to fourteen guests, making it the ideal location for formal dinners, breakfasts, and lunches. The canopy above the table is decorated with elegant pendant lights that add a traditional charm to evening and nighttime dining experiences.
